Profile Match Process
Updated over a week ago

The GEDCOM Import process creates family member profiles. These profiles are genealogy data sets that will generate a family tree. However, users on the FamConnections platform have a genealogy record and a system user record. The purpose of the GEDCOM match process is to:

  • Carry over genealogy data imported from another source to reduce the administrative time required to re-build a family tree.

  • Reduce the administrative time required to invite family members to the platform. FGOs and FMs only need to add an email address to an existing family record to invite the user to join the platform.

  • Eliminate the need for a user to add their genealogy data. The imported data is included in the user’s system record.

When the user joins the platform, their genealogy data is included in their record. The user does not have to input their genealogy data (First Name, Last Name, Middle Name, Maiden Name, Suffix, spouse, marriage date, marriage location, birth date, birth location, etc.).

The system also enforces search criteria before a user is invited to join the platform or added as a new family member during the RSVP process. During these processes, the search feature uses the name of the family member to identify potential matches to existing records. The system prompts the user to select an existing record or proceed to add a new record.

All sign up processes check for matching profiles to reduce the risk of multiple user records. When a user joins the system, the match process executes to reduce the risk of having a user on the system with multiple records.
